The house was built in 1910 by John Studebaker although he never lived in it. His main residence was two blocks east on the northeast corner where a church now stands. He did however leave his mark on this building. The first floor stained glass are his initials in the Greek alphabet.
The house stayed a residence until approximately 1932 when an orthodontist converted the 1st level into his offices and added the outside staircase for the residence apartment upstairs. The business changed hands several times and the upstairs apartment became a rental. So the adjustments were made and the four bedroom, two bath upstairs became a two bedroom, two bath, living room, and kitchen with a sunroom covering the porte cochere. Since 2005, the present owner has made a concerted effort to restore the building as much as possible to the original configuration while updating the services and amenities. |
